MamLuft&Co. Dance

“Will both impress you with technique and provoke you with thoughtful choreography.” – Rick Pender, Citybeat

MamLuft&Co. Dance was recently named “Best Dance Company Pushing the Envelope” by CityBeat in 2012 and awarded “Best Design Concept” by the League of Cincinnati Theatres for the 2013 Cincinnati Fringe Festival. MamLuft&Co. Dance has also been described by CityBeat’s Rick Pender as a company that “will both impress you with technique and provoke you with thoughtful choreography.”

The organization is in its tenth season (in 2016-2017) of working to bring more Modern Dance (and a better understanding of it) to more people in innovative and palpable ways. Its performer-collaborators—who are originally from New York, Utah, Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, New Jersey, Virginia, and of course, Ohio—create modern dance performances, education, and outreach.
The company seeks to provide opportunities for artists and audiences to create, advocate for, and educate through Modern Dance that is both accessible and also challenging at the same time. MamLuft&Co. Dance’s artistic work is known for its focus on creating new evening-length works. Through highly collaborative processes, the company produces intricately staged, physically-demanding dance theatre. To reduce barriers to arts experiences, and Modern Dance in particular, its subject matter aims to be universally-resonant across cultures, classes, and backgrounds, addressing such issues as belonging, shifts of power, communal resolution, and, recently, aging and memory loss. The company creates works for the stage, as well as for the camera, including two half-hour films, Latitude (2012) and Unyielding (2015).
